Green Ideas Issue #1

Welcome to our first edition of "Green Ideas" web log. In the coming months I would like to discuss our relationship with you; the home gardener, farmer, nurseryman, golf course superintendent, lawn care company, landscaper, green builders and anyone else involved in any "green" area. Our goal is to educate anyone interested in learning the art and science of growing turf, crops and flowers organically and the reasons why. With education come responsibility and accountability and hopefully, action. Please see our Mission Statement" at the end of this blog.

There is a reason why at this writing, approximately 1 million acres of farmland per year are making the transition to certified organic. There is a reason why millions of acres of homeowners turf and flower beds are being torn up by Mom & Dad and turned into organic vegetable gardens. Plans are also taking shape in the development of 20 and 30 story high indoor sustainable farms, planted right in the middle of cities to feed that city. There is also enough roof top acreage to feed whole cities and more by growing in vertical hydroponic units. There is a reason why some counties here in Florida and nationwide are mandating, "no chemical fertilizers, herbicides & pesticides" allowed residentially and commercially during the rainy/growing season.

I will discuss these issues and much, much more in greater detail in the next postings. There are numerous avenues and solutions to what we need; from enough healthy food to eat to that nice, healthy, green lawn that we all desire and all done organically & sustainably at less cost than conventional fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. I look forward to enlightening and informing you now and in the future just like I was. Please feel free to respond to my e-mail, dave@greenideainc.com
